New Town

Twenty years ago at the end of the Shadow over Marikest, when Argos Kel Marikest took up the throne at Brightsteel Keep, the city experienced unprecedented growth and economic development. With the reopening of the Brightsteel mines as well as the opening of the Fey Gates throughout Pandec Forest, the city suddenly found itself a center trade and prosperity it never knew it could experience.

With trade comes visitors and with visitors comes permanent residents. And with the lifting of “Hever’s Legacy” ,as the old laws came to be known, the city was quickly overrun with people of all races and from all regions wanting to partake of the cornucopia of prosperity the new rule promised. The city quickly grew beyond its old city walls and a huge new district grew up on the hills directly to the south-east of the city. However, due to the enormous rate of growth within the first five years of the last two decades the so called “New Town” has already began to fall into disrepair and the tightly packed immigrants quickly found themselves living in slums. Like the apple which grows to fast and is of great size and promising aspect, and yet when cut open shows naught but ruin and decay.

The darkened alleys of the tightly packed shacks proved the perfect place for anyone wanting to to get lost in the jumble of activity, and in the absence of the ever watchful eye, and the iron grip of the Shadow Hands the various crime networks who had so long been in hiding found a natural niche in the “bright new face” of New Town. Within only a few short years the night streets of New Town became a no-man’s land where coin will always trump law and those without the coin pay in blood. Even the most dedicated men of the Grey Guard are hesitant to cross the warring crime bosses and men draw short straws for the “opportunity” to patrol its night streets…
